Bob has over 35 years of experience in the fields of International Trade, Cross Border Logistics and Customs Regulations and Procedures.

Bob Armstrong recently served as Senior Vice President of PBB Logistics, and immediately preceding this as President and CEO for the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters Inc. for nine years and as President of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC) for nine years.

He is also Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Council for The Americas and Vice-Chairman of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce. Prior experience includes nine years in Senior Management at Livingston Logistics, several years in Ottawa with a major Government Relations Firm and earlier as a Partner of a Major Public Accounting Firm where he specialized in commodity tax and customs matters.

As well, he is currently a Director of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (where he Chairs the Borders & Transportation Committee), a Director of SCL Canada, as well as, the Hong Kong Canada Business Association, the Forum of International Trade Training (FITT), the Trade Facilitation Office of Canada (TFOC), the Canadian Association of Importers & Exporters Inc. (IECANADA), and the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada (AMCHAM Ontario Division).
Bob Armstrong is a well known national and international speaker, author, and expert on issues related to International Trade, Cross-Border Logistics, and Customs and Security issues.

In May 2005, Mr. Armstrong was awarded the prestigious McMillan Binch Mendelsohn Canadian Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Canada and to Canada's advancement in International Trade.

As Ontario Chamber of Commerce President and CEO since April 2002, Len has worked tirelessly to build a stronger chamber network.

The Chamber has thrived under Len's leadership with an expanded research and advocacy capability, an ISO 9001 designation, and with the founding of the Ontario Economic Summit, an event that brings together leaders from business, labour, government and academia.
Len has served as Assistant Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Ontario Exports Inc. from 1993 to 2001.

During his distinguished career with the Government of Ontario, Len served for three years as the province's chief trade representative to Italy, promoting Ontario's trade and investment interests, and was awarded the Order of Merit from the Italian Government for fostering business ties between Canada and Italy. Prior to his work overseas, he held senior management positions in policy, planning and operations with the government.

As an active community volunteer with a number of organizations, Len has served as Director of the Council of the Americas, Co-Chair of the William Osler Health Centre Foundation Board, past Chair of Seneca International, a member of the Governor General's Study Group on private sector financing, and is the past President of the Etobicoke Parent-Teacher Association.
Len's passion extends beyond community service and the Chamber network. During his free time, Len can most often be found in the Niagara region, where he owns a modest vineyard.
Len has an MBA (Marketing) from York University, a Masters and BA from the University of Toronto.

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce represents over 57,000 Ontario businesses through 160 local Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade, and has been Ontario's business advocate since 1911. Its advocacy and policy initiatives focus on six areas key to the economic well-being of the province; health; education; energy; finance and taxation; transportation and infrastructure; and border issues.

   

Lenore Gibson

Lenore Gibson is the National Chair of the Hong Kong - Canada Business Association. Lenore has been a member of the HKCBA since 1997 when she joined the Ottawa section. In 1999, she was elected President of the Ottawa section and at the same time, joined the National Board of Directors. Lenore remains an active director of the Ottawa section.

Lenore also volunteers her time as a director of the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation, the charitable organization of the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival, the largest dragon boat festival in Canada. The Foundation was established in 2004 to help focus and grow the fundraising efforts for the pledge campaign associated with the annual Festival.

Lenore is the Manager, Regulatory Affairs at CHUM Limited, a leading Canadian media company, which owns and operates 33 radio stations, 12 local television stations and 21 specialty channels. Prior to joining CHUM in May 2006, Lenore was Legal Counsel at the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, the national organization for Canada's private broadcasters, including private radio and television stations, and specialty, pay and pay-per-view services.

William Bruce Hicks

Bruce Hicks is Managing Director of TPIZ Resources Ltd., a Hong-Kong based environmental services and investment company which he started in the summer of 2006. He is the Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong's Sustainable Development committee, and sits on the Chamber's executive committee.

Bruce first arrived in Hong Kong in 1984 while working for Motorola Inc of the US. In 1985 Bruce left Hong Kong to attend business school but returned in 1987 to join the Hutchison Telecommunications organization. Between 1994 through 2006, Bruce was a partner and Executive Director of Distacom Communications Limited, a Hong Kong based private investment company which made multiple investments in start-up wireless operations in Hong Kong, India, Africa and Europe. From 2002 until June 2006, Mr. Hicks was the Chief Executive Officer of SUNDAY Communications Limited, a publicly listed company controlled by Distacom. He is currently a Director of Hong Kong listed e-Kong Ltd.

Mr. Hicks, a Canadian, received a B.S.E.E. degree from Michigan Technological University in 1983 and an M.B.A. from the International Management Institute in Geneva, Switzerland in 1987.

Marvin K. Hough, Regional Vice-President, Asia

Marvin Hough draws on more than 25 years of experience with Export Development Canada (EDC) where he is strongly positioned for his role as EDC's Regional Vice-President for Asia.

Mr. Hough’s tenure with EDC includes positions in both EDC financing and insurance operations. His most recent assignment was Regional Vice-President for Latin America where he oversaw EDC’s business development activities throughout the entire region. Prior to that, Mr. Hough was Regional Director for Mexico and Central America, based in Mexico City, where he played a key role in helping EDC establish its presence in Mexico and grow its business in the region.

In addition to his roles in Latin America, Mr. Hough also has significant experience with EDC in business development within Canada and in supporting EDC’s business in the Asian region.

On the Asian front, he has managed EDC’s financing operations in both the South Asia and Pacific North Asia regions. His experience also includes a four-year interchange assignment with the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade where he served as a Senior Trade Commissioner in New Delhi, India.

Among past assignments which Mr. Hough has held are senior business development roles in EDC’s Vancouver and Toronto regional offices.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Mr. Hough received a Bachelor of Commerce degree (with Distinction) and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Alberta. Export Development Canada (EDC) provides financing and insurance to help Canadian exporters and investors expand their international business. EDC helps 7000 Canadian companies and their global customers in up to 200 markets worldwide each year. EDC is financially self-sustaining and is a recognized leader in financial reporting, economic analysis and human resource management.

Philippe Lacamp
Vice President, Canada
Cathay Pacific Airways Limited

In his role as Vice President Canada, Philippe Lacamp oversees all aspects of Cathay Pacific Airways' operations in Canada.

Lacamp joined the Swire Group, Cathay Pacific's largest shareholder, in 1992. He started in Cathay Pacific's Information Technology department in Hong Kong, followed by a position in Hong Kong Sales, developing niche market products specifically for the airline's loyalty program. From 1996 to 1998, he served as Assistant Manager, International Affairs and played an important role in the re-negotiation of all air service agreements prior to Hong Kong's reunification with China. From 1999 to 2001, he served as Manager, Cabin Crew Relations, gaining valuable experience in budget control, communications and union negotiation. In this capacity, he also oversaw the expansion of the airline's cabin crew base in Vancouver.

Lacamp has held a number of international senior management positions with Cathay Pacific including Country Manager, Sri Lanka and Maldives, from 1998 to 1999 and Country Manager of France, Spain, and Portugal from 2001 to 2004. He moved to Vancouver in 2004 where he has worked to raise the profile of the Canadian operation which has grown significantly over 24 years when it pioneered long-haul transpacific service with its first non-stop flight between Vancouver and Hong Kong. Today, Canada plays an important role in the success of Cathay Pacific's worldwide operations with a strong presence on both East and West Coasts.

Joseph K. Lam, B.A.Sc. (Hons), P.Eng.

Joe Lam received his engineering degree from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and has been active in the ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) field for over 35 years. Prior to joining Delcan, he spent 11 years in the Metropolitan Toronto Traffic Control Centre, managing the first computerized signal system in the world.

As the President of Delcan responsible for its Systems Business, Canada & International Operations, Joe directs a group of traffic, communications and software engineering consulting professionals on numerous innovative ITS projects, and contributes significantly to the export of Canadian technology to manage traffic congestion problems around the world. As a result, he has developed an extensive network of ITS professionals and transportation decision makers in Canada and abroad.

He has authored numerous reports and papers on various aspects of ITS, and regularly speaks on this subject at seminars and conferences around the world. He is currently the Chairman of ITS Canada, and a Director and Vice President of the Transportation Association of Canada. He recently received from the Canadian National Transportation Week an Award of Excellence for an Outstanding Contribution to Transportation in Canada.

Mr. Frederick Ma

Mr. Frederick Ma Si-hang was born in Hong Kong in 1952. Graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1973, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in economics and history.

Before assuming the post of Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury in July 2002, Mr Ma was Group Chief Financial Officer of PCCW Ltd. He was also an executive director and member of the Executive Committee of the Group. Mr Ma has more than twenty years' experience in the global financial services industry. He has served in key posts in J.P. Morgan Private Bank, Chase Manhattan Bank, Kumagai Gumi (HK) Limited and RBC Dominion Securities Limited. He has worked in New York, Toronto and London for nearly 10 years.

Before joining the Government, Mr Ma held a number of public service positions, including serving on the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission.

Barry Macdonald is the Immediate Past National Chair of The Hong Kong-Canada Business Association and since November 2006 the Chair of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide – Hong Kong’s unique network of 31 Hong Kong Business Associations in 23 countries with over 10,000 individual associates.

Barry was a member of the Canada-China Business Council's Hong Kong Advisory Committee, and the Chair of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong in the 1990's, when he was practicing there. A chartered accountant by profession, he has extensive experience in advising Canadian, American and Asian multinational clients on transfer pricing and international tax palling. Mr. Macdonald has a wide variety of clients from Asia, and also clients who are Canadian companies doing business in Asia.

Mayor of Mississauga


Hazel McCallion was first elected Mayor of Mississauga in November, 1978, and is the longest serving Mayor in the City's history. She was acclaimed in 1980, re-elected in 1982 and 1985, acclaimed again in 1988 and re-elected in 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2006. Mayor McCallion was born in Port Daniel on the Gaspe Coast of Quebec and educated in Quebec City and Montreal. She then began a career with Canadian Kellogg and remained with the company for 19 years. In 1967 she decided to leave the corporate world and devote her career to politics.

Ted Menzies, Parliamentary Secretary
Minister of International Trade & Minister of International Cooperation

Since his election to the House of Commons in June 2004, Ted has served as Official Opposition Critic for International Cooperation and Official Opposition Critic for International Trade, a sitting member of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Vice-Chair of the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment. Upon his reelection in January 2006, Ted was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Cooperation and is a member of the Standing Committee on International Trade. In January 2007, Ted was given the additional responsibility of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade while maintaining his International Cooperation duties.

Ted came to parliament with a strong background in agriculture, international trade and in dealing with various governments, which provided Ted the opportunity to speak to audiences not only in Canada but also in Australia, Mexico, U.S., and Europe.

Tom has over 17 years of banking experience focusing primarily on international trade finance and commercial lending. He has worked for HSBC in Hong Kong, London, New York, Saudi Arabia, Beirut and Vancouver.

He is presently Senior Manager Supply Chain Business with HSBC Bank USA based out of New York. In this capacity, Tom is responsible for developing and marketing financial supply chain solutions for HSBC's large North American corporate clientele.

A native of Vancouver, Canada, Tom received a Bachelor's of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in 1999.

   

Catherine A. Pawluch, Partner

Catherine Pawluch is a partner and leads the Transportation National Practice Group. She specializes in Transportation and Competition (Antitrust) Law. Ms. Pawluch is recognized as a top transportation lawyer in the Lexpert Guide to the Top 100 Industry Specialists in Canada and in its Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. She was also designated as one of the most frequently recommended transportation lawyers in the country in Lexpert Canadian Legal Directory. Ms. Pawluch is recognized as one of Canada's leading aviation lawyers in The International Who's Who of Aviation Lawyers, 2006.

Francois Rivest, Consul and Senior Trade Commissioner

Francois joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) in 1991 and was assigned twice at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo. In his most recent assignment to Japan, he served as Counsellor (Commercial) overseeing trade and investment in Canada's natural resources, agriculture, food, and consumer products in addition to overseeing Canada's two trade offices in Sapporo and in Hiroshima. He has held various positions at DFAIT headquarters in Ottawa, including providing policy advice on government assistance for large scale international infrastructure projects and sales of food and other commodities to foreign governments. He also contributed to the renewal of the Trade Commissioner Service by leading teams that developed and implemented client service policies and service standards and designed and delivered global training programs for Trade Commissioners around the world.

Prior to joining the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Francois worked for the City of Winnipeg and for the Canadian Urban Transit Association in Toronto. For one year, he also managed the Japan office of a large Canadian exporter of forest products.

Francois received a Bachelor's degree (Honours Operational Research) from the University of Ottawa and his M.B.A. (Finance) from the University of Manitoba. He studied Japanese in Ottawa and Yokohama and obtained a private pilot's licence prior to joining Canada's Armed Forces in 1981.

Mike Rowse

Mike Rowse came to Hong Kong in 1972, and has lived here ever since. After spells as an English tutor and a journalist, he joined the Independent Commission Against Corruption on its establishment in 1974. After serving in both the Operations and Corruption Prevention Departments, he switched to the Government proper in 1980 as an Administrative Officer.

His recent postings include being the first Commissioner for Tourism (from May 1999 to September 2000), and in July 2000 he was appointed as the first Director-General of Investment Promotion. In that capacity he established the government's investment promotion agency - Invest Hong Kong. He also serves as the Chairman of AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong's biggest exhibition and event venue.

He is married to Fanny Wong, former political editor of the South China Morning Post. They have one daughter and one son. Mike also has two sons by a previous marriage.

In August 2001, he became the first expatriate civil servant in Hong Kong's history to Naturalise as a Chinese National.

   

Mr. Bassanio SO Chek-leung
Director, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office

Mr. Bassanio SO Chek-leung joined the Civil Service as Administrative Officer in 1991. He was promoted to Senior Administrative Officer in 1997 and to Administrative Office Staff Grade C (directorate level in the Hong Kong Civil Service) in 2001.

Over the years, Mr. SO has worked in various Government branches and departments. From 1995 to 1998, he worked as Assistant Representative in the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels. This office is Hong Kong's official representation to the European Union. Upon return to Hong Kong in 1998, he worked as Principal Assistant Secretary in the Constitutional Affairs Bureau. During his five years in the Constitutional Affairs Bureau, Mr. SO was mainly responsible for constitutional development in Hong Kong. He assisted in the enactment of various important bills that provided the legal framework for the election of the Chief Executive in 2002, the Legislative Council in 2000 and 2004, and the District Council in 2003.

Mr. SO obtained his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1981 and Master of Business Administration in 1985 from the University of Hong Kong. Before joining the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, he had worked in the private sector as personal assistant to the chairman of a publicly listed company the business of which was in property development and China trade.

   

Andrew Turczyniak

A graduate of York University in Toronto in Economics and Political Science, Andrew has 15 years of international banking and capital markets experience. Following a career in capital markets trading in Toronto, Andrew moved to London England for eight years followed by four years in Sydney Australia.

In 2003 Andrew moved to Hong Kong to reopen the Bank's Capital Markets business and build out Royal Bank of Canada's presence in Greater China. Andrew is Chairman of the Asian Operating and Risk Committee's.

He is also a director and the secretary of the Canadian Chamber Of Commerce in Hong Kong.

Mr. Yuen Pau Woo
President and Co-CEO
Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada

Mr. Woo is President and Co-CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. Prior to this, Mr. Woo was the Foundation's Vice President, Research and Chief Economist. He is Canada's representative on the Standing Committee of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), Director of the APEC Study Centre in Canada, and Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia's Institute of Asian Research. Since December 2004, Mr. Woo has been Coordinator of PECC's Pacific Economic Outlook forecasting panel.

Mr. Woo is on the Board of the Standards Council of Canada and sits on advisory committees for the Centre for Asia Pacific Initiatives at the University of Victoria and the Centre of Excellence in Immigration Research at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. He is also a Senior Advisor to the Shanghai WTO Affairs Consultation Centre and on the editorial board of Pacific Affairs.

Mr. Woo was born in Malaysia and grew up in Singapore. He was educated at Lester B. Pearson College. Wheaton College, the University of Cambridge and the University of London. Mr. Victor Yang, Partner
Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson

Victor Yang was a founding Partner of the Canadian based law firm of Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson ("BPYA") and is presently the Managing Partner of Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson, Solicitors, Hong Kong SAR.

Mr. Yang returned to Hong Kong in 1991 and was instrumental in establishing BPYA's Asian offices. He was the chief representative of BPYA's Canadian representative office in Shanghai, the first Canadian law firm approved by the PRC Ministry of Justice to be licensed as a foreign law firm in China

Mr. Yang was born in Shanghai, China and completed his primary and secondary education at the Diocesan Boys' School in Hong Kong. He later attended the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and received his B. Comm. and LL.B degrees. After graduating from law school in 1970, Mr. Yang initially worked as an accountant between 1970 to 1972 with the chartered accountancy firm of Thorne, Gunn, Helliwell & Christiansen (now known as KPMG) before forming his own law practice in Vancouver.

Since his university days, Mr. Yang has taken an active role in a number of Canadian university and community organizations, including the UBC Students' Society, the Immigrant Services Society, the Chinese Cultural Centre, the Chinese Overseas Students' Association of UBC and the United Chinese Community Services Society. He was also a founding member and past president of the Vancouver chapter of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association. In addition, Mr. Yang has been invited to speak before many professional and business organizations, including the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia, the Business sub-section of the Canadian Bar, the Vancouver Board of Trade, the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, the Conference Board of Canada, the Lions Club (HK East Island Chapter) and the Hong Kong Society of Accountants, the Milken Institute (2005 Global Conference) and the China Israel Business Forum (2006 Tel-Aviv).

He has served on various boards of publicly listed companies in Canada, Hong Kong, U.S.A. and Singapore. Mr. Yang currently sits on the Board of Lei Shing Hong Limited, the authorized dealer and distributor of Caterpillar equipment, Mercedes Benz and Porsche motor vehicles in China, Taiwan, Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Yang is also a Board member of Ming Pao Enterprise Corporation Limited, a publisher of magazines and newspapers in Hong Kong, China, Canada, U.S.A. and Malaysia. Mr. Yang also sits on the Board of the bio fuel company, China Agri- Holdings Limited, which is a subsidiary of Cofco China and has recently been listed as a China red chip stock in Hong Kong. Mr. Yang is also representing the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation as a Board member in China Homes Limited, a China properties joint venture investment company with Prudential, U.S.A.

He is presently a governor of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Major Sports Events Committee of the Home Affairs Bureau, Hong Kong SAR and a director of the Hong Kong Foundation for UBC Limited and was a board member of the Canadian International School in Hong Kong.

Mr. Yang was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong in September 1992. Mr. Yang was also admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in British Columbia, Canada (1974) and as a Solicitor of England & Wales (1992). Mr. Yang's areas of practice include corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, securities and public listings, trusts and tax planning.

Mr. Zhang Qui, Deputy Director-General
Fujian Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation


Mr. Zhang was born on November, 1956 in Shouning county, Fujian province, China. He graduated in Chinese and political economy from Fujian Normal University with a bachelor's degree in Chinese and a master's degree in economics.

Mr. Zhang initially worked in Fuzhou No. 1 Middle School and Fuzhou University. Later he joined the government. He has worked as the secretary in general office of Fujian provincial government, deputy director of office of Fujian Agriculture Comittee, deputy secretary of district Party committee of Fuzhou Suburb Committee, head and deputy secretary of county Party committee of Minhou County of Fuzhou, secretary of district Party committee of Mawei District of Fuzhou, director and Party committee secretary of management committee of the Fuzhou economic and technological development zone and director of management committee of Fuzhou Tax-Protected Zone.

Mr. Zhang has extensive experience in international trade, investment, economic management and governmental management.

Presently, Mr. Zhang is deputy director-general of Fujian Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. He also serves on the Committee for the Promotion of Fujian-Taiwan Economic Cooperation as deputy director of the office.
